Frequently Asked Questions

Camper Health and Safety

To help prevent the spread of illness, please keep your child at home if they show signs of sickness or have been diagnosed with a contagious condition. If your camper has had a fever within 24 hours of check-in, please contact the Office Manager.

At Camp Monroe, we prioritize camper health and safety. Our staff is trained in safety protocols, basic first aid, and accident prevention. Certified, licensed nurses are on-site during each camp session to handle injuries, administer over-the-counter medications, and manage any prescribed medications brought by campers.

To keep campers hydrated, water stations are placed throughout the camp, and regular water breaks are scheduled.

For lake activities, certified lifeguards are present at all times. Camp staff also supervise campers in the lake and pool areas. All campers must pass a swim test at the start of the week to determine if a lifejacket is necessary for pool activities. Regardless of swimming ability, campers wear life jackets while in or near the lake, and also if any all camp group activity is played at the pool.

Can I contact or see my camper during the week?

With camper safety in mind, and needing to maintain focus on our program, we must limit the people who are on the property and in the facilities. Therefore, visitors are not allowed during camp. You can call to check on your camper; but rest assured, if you have not heard from us, they are doing great! Campers will not be able to call home. If there are any health or behavioral issues a camp nurse or director will contact you.

In the case there is a family emergency while at camp:

  • Emergency Contact Information:
    • During office hours (M-F, 8am-5pm), call the main office at (910) 276-1654 for urgent matters or to pick up your camper. Our Guest Relations team will assist promptly.
    • After hours, email our Office Manager at office@monroecamp.org with “EMERGENCY” in the subject line. This will alert the Camp Director immediately. Use this only for urgent issues that can’t wait until business hours.
  • Non-Emergency Contact:
    • For non-urgent matters, call (910) 276-1654 or email Office@MonroeCamp.org during office hours. Please note that personal calls to campers cannot be directed during camp activities. Rest assured, if any issues arise, the camp director will contact you right away.
How is inclement weather handled?

In the event of severe or threatening weather, Camp Monroe staff will take all necessary precautions to ensure camper safety. If the weather is not severe, activities will continue indoors with possible adjustments. We have multiple programming adjustments that our staff will put into place if there is severe weather.
